Full-Time House Manager: $60-80K and Benefits

Family with residence in Lakeview of Chicago is seeking an experienced, professional, organized and detail oriented Full-Time House Manager to manage a busy family and 5,000 square foot single family home. Schedule is on Monday – Friday at 11:00am – 7:00/7:30pm. House Manager is responsible for child daily between approximately 5:00pm-7:00/7:30pm. House Manager is required to work full days and varying hours if full-time nanny is off work (e.g., vacation days or sick days). Flexibility is required to work occasional evenings and weekends when needed by family. Safe vehicle for transportation is required for the position. House Manager is responsible for overseeing the general operation of residence, family assistant responsibilities, collaborative to work directly with other domestic staff and Principals on a daily basis, comfortable with six cats, willing to assist with child and future children, willing to grocery shop and prepare healthy meals, assertive, proactive, resourceful, self starter, organized, detail oriented, service focused, kind, professional, ability to multi-task and wear many hats, respectful and capable of maintaining discretion. Full-Time Nanny works five weekdays per week and Part-Time Housekeeper works three weekdays per week. This is a newly created position. Start date is ASAP, but flexible for the right candidate. 


• Daily walk through of residence to ensure that all systems are functioning properly

• Managing 5,000 square foot residence in Lakeview of Chicago

• Maintain comprehensive household manuals setting priorities for tasks on daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual basis

• Maintain file systems including those for household operations, warranty manuals, household equipment, invitations, entertainment logs, etc. 

• Maintain contacts lists that include family members, friends, vendors, contractors, businesses, etc.

• Responsible for running errands (e.g., grocery shopping, shopping for home supplies, returns and other requested items)

• Responsible for meal planning and fresh and healthy meal preparation (family realizes that this person is a cook and not a chef) 

• Responsible for assisting with 10 month old boy daily (family hopes to have additional children in the future, so House Manager must be comfortable with multiple children) 

• Responsible for overflow of housekeeper tasks (e.g., making beds, laundry, cleaning, organizational projects, etc.)

• Dry cleaning inventory (e.g., checking things out when they are dropped off/picked up by cleaners and checked in upon return)

• Inventory checklists and ordering things for home (e.g., household supplies, cleaning supplies, things for child, food for child/Principals/cats, light bulbs, etc.) 

• Responsible for handling things around the home (e.g., receiving deliveries, service providers, contractors, answering phone calls, sending emails, etc.)

• Responsible for house projects (e.g., ensuring all lights are working, changing light bulbs, annual assistance with projects such as wiping window sills, etc.)

• Responsible for organizational projects

• Managing domestic staff for residence and supervising the quality of their performance (minimal amount required due to staff being self sufficient and Principals preference of continuing to manage employees) 

• Coordinate staff schedules to ensure adequate coverage at all times based on Principals’ needs

• Assist domestic staff with projects when necessary (e.g., creating a collaborative/team environment)

• Ensure pantry and refrigerator are properly stocked in accordance with the Principals’ travel and entertaining schedules

• Maintain security systems at residence and check/test on a regular basis

• Maintain vehicles, take for service appointments and keep accurate records of services completed

• Responsible for six cats (e.g., feeding, changing water bowls, brushing, scheduling vet appointments, grooming, etc.)

• Provide hospitality and attend to guest and family’s needs when visiting 

• Managing household schedules and calendars 

• Event planning, organizing, coordination and flawless execution day of event

• Scheduling appointments for personal and professional needs of Principals and children

• Vetting contractors/service providers/vendors, scheduling home maintenance and repair work and supervising projects

• Keep mail organized, handle household and family bills and administrative duties

• Manage household petty cash and proper documentation and submission of house credit card purchases/receipts

• Packing children for trips (occasional assistance with packing Principals for travel) 

• Schedule regular meetings with Principals to discuss their schedule, travel plans, upcoming events, special projects, etc. 


• Experienced working with children and passionate about child development and/or education 

• Passionate about healthy eating and lifestyle 

• Highly organized, detail oriented, proactive, excellent time management, efficient and service focused

• Attentive to Principals’ preferences and style (intuitive to their needs)

• Observant to the needs of family and home to anticipate their needs (e.g., scheduling routine window washing, scheduling children for activities, cats are due for check ups, etc.) 

• Ability to maintain discretion (confidentiality agreement is required)

• Ability to be discreet with respect for employer’s privacy

• Professional presentation of self and great personality

• Ability to develop and maintain solid working relationships with service providers, contractors and vendors

• Ability to easily take direction 

• Strong ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with Principals, children, domestic staff, family, friends, etc.

• Strong technology skills and experienced working with Macintosh 

• Live a close proximity to the family’s residence in Lakeview 

• Seeking longevity/long term commitment (e.g., at least 2-5+ years)

• Positive attitude and ability to handle residences and staff with ease and calm demeanor

• Active and fit

• Non-Smoker 


• Bachelor’s degree 

• 2-5+ years of consistent and recent experience working as a full-time house manager and/or personal assistant in domestic position

• 3-4 references from professional positions

• Ability to complete extensive background checks, motor vehicle checks and drug tests 

• Safe vehicle for transportation

• Driver’s license and clean driving record 

• CPR Certification

• Vaccinations (e.g., MMR, TDap, Flu shot)

• Comfortable with cats 


• $60-80K gross annual salary (based on experience and qualifications) 

• Health insurance stipend 

• Two weeks (10 days) paid vacation

• Seven government holidays paid: New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, day after Thanksgiving, Christmas 

• Discretionary annual bonus and raise (performance evaluation required)
