Full-Time Live In or Live Out Nanny/House Manager: $45-50K+ and PTO

Ellsworth, ME Full Time

Family living in Ellsworth, Maine with three year old boy is seeking a professional, experienced and educated full-time live in or live out nanny/house manager. The schedule is on Monday – Friday at 6:30am – 8:30pm on full days when child is off of school and on Monday – Friday at 6:30am-8:30am and 3:30pm-8:30pm on days when child is in school. Hours have the potential to shift in future years when child is enrolled in full day school, during summer months, etc. (position will transition into much more house management and family assistant responsibilities when child is enrolled in full day school). Nanny is required to travel internationally and domestically approximately 2-4+ weeks per year and work overnights when parents are traveling without child approximately 1-2+ weeks annually. Extreme flexibility is required for the position. Child is enrolled in private school, which is driving distance from the family’s residence. Safe vehicle for transportation is required for position. Nanny/House Manager must be collaborative to work with cleaning service and directly with Principals on a daily basis, warm, nurturing, calm confidence and demeanor, discreet, assertive, proactive, resourceful, self starter, organized, detail oriented, hard working, service focused, kind, professional, ability to multi-task and wear many hats, respectful and capable of maintaining discretion. Candidates must have previous experience in similar position(s) that include nanny experience along with house management responsibilities. Family is open to local candidates or domestic relocations. Start date is ASAP. 


• Experienced with play-based learning and creating educational activities (e.g., planned engaging activities at home, developmentally appropriate games and activities, engaging projects and crafts, themed weeks, scheduled outings, etc.)

• Knowledgeable about child development (e.g., firm when necessary and capable of teaching child manners and etiquette, but also capable of being laid back and fun) 

• Support teaching and reinforcement of manners and other social skills

• Provide developmentally appropriate games and activities, engaging projects and crafts at home and schedule/plan fun outings and events 

• Assist child with homework, school projects, studying for tests, etc. and keep parents informed of progress and needs (when age appropriate) 

• Transporting child to and from school, activities, play dates, camps, etc.

• Fresh and healthy meal planning and preparation for family (willing to introduce and encourage child to try new foods) 

• Pack child’s healthy lunches and bags for the following day (e.g., ensure all school work is completed, pack gear for sports and/or activities, etc.) (when age appropriate) 

• Principals and child’s laundry

• Inventory checklists for household items, food, child’s supplies, etc. and ordering through Amazon, Peapod, etc.

• Event planning for child’s themed birthday parties and other events (e.g., Plan, organize and oversee flawless execution day of event) 

• Maintain comprehensive household manuals setting priorities for tasks on daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual basis

• Maintain file systems including those for household operations, warranty manuals, household equipment, invitations, entertainment logs, etc. 

• Maintain contacts lists that include family members, vendors, contacts, businesses, etc.

• Responsible for scheduling and overseeing vendors and contractors (e.g., winterizing irrigation system for winter, seasonal landscaping displays, etc.)

• Responsible for running errands (e.g., shopping for home supplies, returns, purchasing school supplies for beginning of school year and needed throughout the year, purchasing gifts for birthday parties child is attending, and other requested items)

• Responsible for handling things around the home (e.g., receiving deliveries, service providers, contractors, answering phone calls, sending emails, going through mail and sorting bills and junk, etc.)

• Responsible for organizational projects (e.g., child’s bedroom, playroom (toys, crafts, etc.), closets, rotating clothes seasonally, getting rid of outgrown toys, taking things for donation, etc.)

• Assist cleaning service with projects when necessary (e.g., creating a collaborative/team environment)

• Ensure pantry, refrigerator and wine cellar are properly stocked in accordance with the Principals’ and child’s travel and entertaining schedules

• Maintain vehicles, take for service appointments and keep accurate records of services completed

• Managing family and household schedules and calendars

• Scheduling and maintaining calendars for child, registering for activities/camps/etc., planning play dates/outings with friends, etc. 

• Manage household petty cash (including proper documentation) and submission of house credit card purchases/receipts

• Assistance with travel arrangements and ensuring all logistics are planned in advance 

• Packing child for trips/travel 

• Schedule meetings with Principal(s) as needed to discuss their schedule, child’s schedule, travel plans, upcoming events, special projects, etc. 


• Capable of building good rapport with similar aged children (intellectual and curiosity about world to engage child) 

• Ability to travel internationally and domestically whenever necessary 

• Highly organized, detail oriented, proactive, excellent time management, efficient and service focused

• Attentive to Principals’ preferences and style (intuitive to their needs)

• Observant to the needs of family and home to anticipate their needs 

• Ability to maintain discretion (confidentiality agreement is required)

• Ability to be discreet with respect for employer’s privacy

• Professional presentation of self and great personality 

• Ability to develop and maintain solid working relationships with service providers, contractors and vendors

• Ability to work collaboratively with vendors and oversee projects 

• Ability to easily take direction 

• Strong ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with Principals (extension of parents and consistent childcare philosophies)

• Strong technology skills and experienced working with Macintosh and PC 

• Seeking longevity/long term commitment (e.g., at least 2-5+ years)

• Positive attitude and ability to handle residences and staff with ease and calm demeanor

• Active and fit

• Non-Smoker 


• Bachelor’s degree and/or Master’s Degree in Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education or Early Childhood Development is most ideal, but bachelor’s degree is required 

• 2-5+ years of full-time consistent and recent domestic experience working as a nanny/house manager 

• 3-4 references from professional positions

• Live a close proximity to family’s residence in Maine (if candidate prefers live out position) 

• Ability to complete extensive background checks, motor vehicle checks and drug tests 

• Driver’s license and clean driving record 

• CPR Certification

• Safe vehicle for transportation


• $45-50K+ gross annual salary (based on experience and qualifications) 

• $20 per hour net (cash) for hours worked over 50 hours per week 

• $100 per overnight net (cash) for overnights traveling outside of family residences

• Mileage/gas reimbursement for transporting child and running errands for family 

• Two weeks (10 days) paid vacation

• Seven government holidays paid 

• Discretionary annual bonus and raise (performance evaluation required)

• Furnished living provided (if candidate is interested in live in position)
